Aus is a small village in southern Namibia and is located in the mountains above the plains of the Namib Desert. Surrounded by dry sand, the scenery in this unique part of Namibia will blow your mind. In 1915 the village was used as a prisoners of war camp where World War I inmates were captured and lived in tents. Later on they built brick houses and in 1919 the last inmates left the camp. Today you can visit the Commonwealth war graves at Aus, as well as the brick houses that have been reconstructed. Aus is the perfect starting point for a trip to the places around you, such as searching for wild horses and taking the walking tour at Kolmanskop. A look into the night sky promises a clear view of stars that you have never seen in such abundance - guaranteed to give you goose bumps.
